Author's Bio:  PuppySpot is a service committed to helping responsible place their puppies with caring individuals and families across the U.S. But more than just a service, the PuppySpot team is a community of dog lovers whose mission is to make lives better by placing healthy puppies into happy homes.

This week is National Dog Week, and what better way to celebrate than honoring all the amazing things our fur babies do for us? Aside from just being ridiculously cute, dogs actually provide humans with numerous health benefits. Along with the expected increased physical activity, they can also:

  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Make kids more active and responsible
  • Improve heart health while reducing risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Boost self esteem
  • Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation

All of this plus unparalleled companionship, what more could you ask for? Oh and I almost forgot! Did you know dogs can also be trained to detect certain forms of cancer in humans and when their owner is exposed to allergens? This PuppySpot graphic highlights all of these benefits and more.

As the new school year kicks off, these pup perks are especially good to keep in mind. Puppy therapy is growing increasingly more popular among college campuses as a distressing program during high pressure exam weeks. Because what college student doesn’t feel better surrounded by puppies? The students get to relax and the pups get a little extra lovin. That my friend is what we call a win, win. Adopting a puppy in college can also promote a more structured and active lifestyle. Being responsible for your puppy’s health and wellbeing is a great motivator to maintain a schedule and be more active outside.

So to conclude our National Dog Week celebration I ask of you one thing; give your pup a pet and thank them for all they do for us!
