How to throw a Backyard Movie Party?

Today is Father's Day! Happy Father's day to all the fathers, the mothers who play the father role and the guardians. This is a great way to spend time with your father after a long day.

Steps:

1. Choose a movie

Depending on your target crowd, you will need to pick on type of movie then go on for there. My favorite type of movie to pick when
I'm doing a movie night with my friends or father is horror movie.

2. Send out your invitations

You can either send out a virtual invitation via text or email, which would do great for a modern day or futuristic movie theme. Or you can make cute invitations or passes and hand them out, which would be great for an old movie theme. Either way it's your party so do it how you want.

3. Get a projector and a screen

If you do not own a projector, you can borrow or rent or even make your own (NB/ the DIY version of the projector will create a smaller screen than an actually projector). If you do not want to neither you can always purchase one whether it is an second hand form eBay or craigslist or you can buy one at an electronic store. (NB/ you can buy it online through E bates to get cash back on your purchase).

The easiest way to get a screen is using a white sheet or a white wall to display your movie. (NB/ using a white canvas painter drop cloth is better than using a regular sheet. You can purchase at your local hardware store.). To secure your sheet in place in case it gets a bit wind is to purchase some clamps from your local hardware store. You can also use a paint on screen or purchase or rent a screen.

4. Prepare your snacks

How can you have a movie without popcorn, juice, candy and all that good stuff? But seriously the snacks at half of your viewing experience when you have a movie party! So make sure you have a mini movie buffet and don't forget water because popcorn can be salty. What I would do is recreate or purchase some of my father's favorite childhood snacks.

5. Prepare seating

The simplest thing to do is to figure out if you are going to provide seating for your party guest or let them bring their own seat. If you are going to provide seating you must figure out if you are going to have chairs or pillows and sheets or a mixture. Be creative with seating if you can.

Remember to not over think it, the whole idea of a movie night is to have fun and relax. Happy Father's Day!

Father's Day Custom DIY Gifts

DIY #1:
For me, what I think any father would like is a custom table top that is unique in reflecting his personality, whether your dad is a family guy, comic guy or handy guy.
Plus which dad wouldn't like a custom table for his man cave that he can brag about to with his buddies?

Materials needed:

Table, or furniture with a flat surface

Photos of anything

Pour-on high gloss finish

Mod Podge (any white wood glue, such as Elmer’s Glue works)

Water

Torch or straw

Brush

Scissors

Exact-o knife

Containers and Popsicle sticks for mixing

blade and sanding stone

1. Print out your photos and cut them out.

2. Starting with a clean surface, apply an even coat of Mod Podge on the table surface

3. Mix together a 1:1 ratio of water and Mod Podge in a container.

4. Place the photos on the table in any arrangement that you like, overlaying them to make a collage.

NB// Make sure that all the pictures are flat on the surface and that there are no air bubbles or gaps between the pictures.

5. Let the glue dry for about an hour before putting on a layer of Mod Podge and letting it dry for another 4 hours.

6. Once the glue has set, use an exact-o knife or scissors to cut around the edges of the table to snip off any bits of picture sticking out.

7. Following the instructions on the box, pour equal parts of the high gloss finish bottles to make the resin and stir thoroughly.

8. Pour the mixture onto the tabletop and spread it around evenly. You can shift the table back and forth, and then use a card edge to evenly spread out the resin on the surface.

NB// It is recommended to work in a well ventilated area or outdoors. Also the resin tends to drip so make sure you put scrap paper underneath the table.

9. Use a torch to heat up the tabletop, holding it three inches above the surface and uniformly going over the top. The heat will eliminate any air bubbles in the resin gloss or use a straw to blow out the bubbles.

10. Let the resin set for up to 7 hours. It’s recommended to let your table to dry in a dust-free area, as the particles will settle on the resin.

11. Once the gloss has dried, use a blade and sanding stone to remove any excess resin that dripped on the sides of the table.

DIY #2:
Another thing that I think would be a great gift a father would love is a sign that reminds him of the rewards that parenthood has to offer. This custom decor gift can have a rustic feel to it or an childish craft touch, do whatever tickles your boat.

Materials needed:

12 x 12 inch wood broad (size is optional)
wood stain or paint
letter stencil
acrylic paint (of any color)
masking tape
sponge brush

1. Prepare the wood broad by making sure it is smooth, if not sand down the areas with sand paper or liquid sand.

2. If painting make sure to primer the wood before applying paint, a good two coats-more if needed. If staining make sure to do a good two coats-more if needed.

NB// It is recommended to work in a well ventilated area or outdoors.

3. Allow paint or stain to dry for a good 2 to 3 hours before painting on your words.

4. Take the masking tape and tape the stencil to where you want the words/letters to go.

5. Start sponging on the paint on the broad. Let it dry for 1 to 2 hours before removing the stencil.
NB// I recommend using the adhesive stencil to prevent bleeding during the painting process.
