DIY projects are great for the entire family because every family member won’t say no to a project which offers them a chance to do something with their own hands. Children are especially drawn to this kind of projects because they have the opportunity to learn something new, something they haven’t experienced before. But, before you go on complicated projects with your children, I suggest you tackle something simple, like this DIY I am offering you below. The best thing about this project is the fact that you have everything you need at home. The most complicated thing with this project will be drilling the holes in the cardboard so you can imagine how simple it is.

What do you need for this DIY project?

To make a foosball table you will need:

· 1 old cardboard shoebox

· 6 or 8 plastic straws or wooden dowels (depends on the size of the shoebox)

· 10 or more clothespins

· 1 ping pong ball

· Sharpie & Ruler

· Scissors or utility knife

· Glue and clear tape

DIY mini foosball table

1. Take one shoebox you don’t use, but it has to be in a good shape. Measure the size of the shoebox and depending on the size; choose the number and the place for the holes for the rods. You can make 2-4 rods on each side, but keep in mind that you have to have the same distance between the rods and that the holes have to be in the same place on both side of the box. Also, keep in mind that you have to make holes big enough for the rods. The shorter sides of the box will have goals, but they don’t have to be too big. Make them big enough for a ping pong ball to go through without difficulties.

2. The most important parts – the holes are done. Now you can start decorating the shoebox and you can give your children that task so you can continue to work on the rods and the players.

3. The rods are pretty simple to make. Count the holes on one side of the shoebox and the number of holes should match the number of rods. The best way to make rods is to combine plastic straws used in cocktails (the bigger ones) and fill them with wooden dowels or the plastic straws will bend and they won’t be able to carry the players. You can use two different colors of straws so you can divide them into two teams.

4. Now that the rods are done there is only one thing on the TO DO list and that are players. Players aren’t complicated to make, all you need are clothespins. Take them and divide them into two teams. Give your children to color them so you can recognize which player is for one team and which is for the other and attach them to the rods. The reason why we used the clothespins is the fact that they are very easy to attach. But, to make sure they are fixed you can use the glue.

BONUS:

Make sure that children know which goal is which and the best way to do that is to color each end of the foosball court in one color. You can color the players and the goal in the same color so they are completely sure where they have to hit the ball.

Regular physical activity in childhood is essential for proper development and growth. Therefore, it’s very important that parents sign up their kids for some kind of sport. Still, if the kids themselves never express their own preference when it comes to sports, it’s up to parents to find a good match for their children’s personality. If you need some help deciding what physical activity your child should take up, consider the following tips that can help you find a perfect one.

Shy or open kid?

Kids that don’t have trouble communicating with others and can get along with their peers just fine can really benefit from any type of sport. In this case it’s important to find something that will simply be fun for them. On the other hand, if your child is really shy, you might want to keep them away from team sports for a while. This is especially true for younger children. It would be best to pick an individual sport where shy kids can concentrate on their own skills without too much social pressure. As they get used to training sessions, team sports might become more appealing later on.

Do you want your child to open up?

At a very young age, shy children shouldn’t be pressured into team sports simply because the trouble of social contact might be overbearing. Still, if your child is preschool age or older and still has social problems, team sports can really help them to break out of their shells. Team sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. can really help the child open up, become friendlier and work well with teammates. What about the training centre?

A big part of decision is definitely the vicinity and age-appropriate atmosphere of the training centre. If it’s too far, you might want to ask yourself whether you’ll actually be able to take your child there on regular basis. Even if your kid is older, it might not be safe to let them commute on their own. Also, if you set your mind on several different sports, make sure to check the centre’s conditions, level of professionalism as well as availability of proper equipment. If you want your child to take up soccer for example, what you need to get is some basic soccer gear, while for the rest of the equipment (soccer goals and balls) you can rely on the training centre to provide it.

Is it fun?

Even if your child wasn’t interested in sports before, they will form their own opinion on the activity that they take up. In that respect you should always listen to them and ask whether they find the particular sport fun or not. There’s nothing wrong in trying out different sports if your child simply doesn’t enjoy the first or even the second one that they give a try. If it’s not fun for them, the main benefits will fail to show and kids will only feel stressed out or even traumatized.

Make sure to do the proper research when choosing the best sport for your child. Remember that it’s necessary to include kids in the search for the perfect physical activity. Even if they don’t seem eager to take up a sport, it’s highly unlikely that they will bluntly refuse to engage in any. But, kids do need to find the particular recreation fun and motivational.

Besides, such an outfit will not allow kids to move with ease, which may make them feel cranky. So, before making a final decision, it’s essential that your kids try on different outfits. Let them move around a little bit in them – even if they can’t tell that they’re uncomfortable, you will be able to see that the fit is wrong.
